Harbour seals (which some call sea potatoes) look as if they are fragile, innocent and overall adorable all at the same time. They are known for being lazy chubby creatures that just lay in the sand all day but actually, there much more (Still though they spend A LOT of time sleeping on land or underwater.)
Why are harbour seals so round
Due to their unique and cute look people take quite a liking to these chubby marine animals, But why are they actually so round? Harbour seals are oversized because of their fat which comes from their blubber. They need this for cold and icy waters and energy if they’re out exploring and don’t have enough food resources?
How do Harbour seals hunt for food?
Harbour seals do this by rubbing against coral reefs or any rocky edges; they do this as feeling against the rocks could help feel for any camouflaged octopuses as that’s what they usually eat.
How do seals sleep underwater?
Harbour Seals are known for laying in the sand and resting, hunting for food and exploring the waters. But these seals have a very smart way of sleeping underwater without having to worry about being eaten by sharks. These underwater sleeping methods are called waterbeds. Selas use two rocks just far enough to fit. into, after they’ve gone between the rocks they just rest. This works as they can’t float away or get lost in the water.
Where are Harbour seals found?
Harbour seals are native to Mexico, Canada, America and several places in Europe and Asia; they live in coastal regions near the northern hemisphere. The water may have a temperature close to Artic regions water
Overall Harbour seals are cute oversized marine animals that have adapted to their climates well
