Undertale: Why This Should Be Everyone's Favourite Game

Undertale. How can I describe that game? Art. Beauty. A complete masterpiece.

(I feel chatGPT’s presence)

That game, ever since I played it, or more accurately, experienced it, had permanently left an incredible mark on me. Calling it a game is a bit inaccurate too. It’s more like a book, except you can, you know, do more than sit there and flip the page. I’m a lover of reading, but even I admit it can be boring sometimes. Undertale is more like being an author. It’s more like being alive. Every single choice, and I mean every choice, influences the story. The game is set in an underground world. Once upon a time, monsters and humans lived in harmony, until the humans, scared of the immense potential of monsters (no spoilers, play the game and find out) trapped them all underground. Years later, the Underground is overpopulated and harsh, and basically uninhabitable. A human child, while exploring, falls into the hole that leads into the prison of the monsters. That’s how the story starts. Now, into a little bit about the game.

The Combat

The combat is not the main part of the game, but in my opinion (though I’ll glaze everything about this game), it’s an extremely fun one. Your SOUL, represented by a little red heart, is trapped in a box (except in very, very special circumstances) in fights that are part of the story or random encounters. The monster that you are fighting is shown above the box, and four buttons, titled, in order, FIGHT, ACT, ITEM and arguable the most important button, MERCY. FIGHT is self explanatory. It, uh, fights. I’m so intelligent. But anyway, a rectangle slides across a bar not unlike a dartboard, and the closer to the center you get it the more damage you deal. Each enemy had different unique attack patterns which are quite hard to get used to. And some of them are genuine ragebait I’m not even joking the amount of hours I’ve had to spend I’m going to crash out oh my freaking...

please stand by

Deep breaths, Srijan. Moving on, ACT gives you different dialogue options, and by picking the right one, sometimes multiple times, will enable you spare the monster, which I’ll get on to later. ITEM allows you to, well, use an item. My genius is genuinely unmatched. MERCY allows you to spare a monster after the necessary ACT options have been selected. When you click on MERCY, the name of the monster comes up on your screen. When the name is yellow, that means the monster is ready for sparing. Spare if possible, because it’s the right thing to do. Later, you’ll feel guilty and you’ll pay if you don’t.

The Story

Two words

Peak. Cinema.

The Progression

Since the game is mainly about the story, the progression isn’t really a large part of the game, but there is some. You start with a stick, wack people with a stick, upgrade to Tuff Glove (yes that’s what it’s called) and attack with your pure aura. You can level up by killing monsters, though, once you play the game and go through your first run (there are three routes and the endings are divided between them, the ending that is where the best story plays out is the True Pacifist route, which is where you don’t kill anyone and you have to complete your previous game with no monster kills among other conditions first) you won’t want to level up. There are many different offensive and defensive items granting higher stats, and foods giving different temporary buffs and health points. When you use or equip any item, you’ll get a special dialogue unique to the item and all the weapons have different methods of attack. For example, some have more of the white stripes flying across the attack bar to deal more damage. Undertale has the most level of detail and care that I have ever seen in any game, and I play WAYYY more than what’s good for me. help

Conclusion or whatever I don’t know what to call it

This is an amazing game. I will glaze it till the end of time. There is so, so much to the game, so many secrets, you won’t be able to find all of them. There’s so much lore that’s undiscovered, and that game, I sound stupid or possibly addicted, but that game made me a better person.

Play the game right now.

please I need someone to flex on
