TXT make K-Pop history at Lollapalooza

Tomorrow X Together, one of the most popular K-pop groups, recently broke barriers by becoming the first K-pop group to perform at Lollapalooza, America’s largest music festival. The festival served as their conclusion to ACT: LOVESICK, their first world tour, as the five member group performed some of their most well known tracks for a forty five minute set.

The singers kicked off their set with the rock inspired hit - Good Boy Gone Bad. The song is the title track of their recently released album minisode 2 - Thursday’s Child, which is the longest charting K-pop album of 2022 on the Billboard 200! They followed up with the fan favourite b-side Frost, from their previous album, The Chaos Chapter, wowing the crowd with their intense choreography.

To take a breather, TXT performed their popular ballad Anti-Romantic, after which they were joined by iann dior for their most recent collaboration, Valley of Lies. This was followed up by the group’s first English song, Magic, whose bright and cheerful chorus never fails to please. Their next track was also from their latest album, bringing in the retro vibes as the opening notes of Thursday’s Child Has Far To Go filled the air. It was personally my favourite song from their performance , especially as this song was written and produced by Beomgyu, one of the members of the group.

TXT saved the best for last as they performed one of their most popular songs so far in their career, LO$ER=LO♡ER, the iconic and heartfelt song gaining the most enthusiastic response from the audience. And their grand finale was the lead single of their Chaos Chapter: FREEZE album, 0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You) feat. Seori was chosen as Billboard’s best K-pop song of 2021.

The idols were apprehensive prior to their performance, worrying that the audience would be unfamiliar with the group and not respond well. On a livestream with their fans, one of the members, Taehyun, expressed his nervousness, saying, “What if we go to (Lollapalooza) and no one knows us? What if our stage is filled with complete silence?”

Thankfully, their worries evaporated as they entered the stage and were met by enthusiastic screaming from the crowd. Hundreds of fans were holding the band’s light sticks in support, and cheered as they sang along to their favourite songs. Their performance was also streamed online for the fans who weren’t able to see it in person, clocking in a whopping 1.3 million viewers on the WeVerse app alone. The band’s stunning vocals, stage presence, complex choreography and accompaniment by a live band, definitely made them one of the crowd’s favourites, to say the least.

The band is now back in their home continent and ready to continue the Asian leg of their ACT: LOVESICK tour. Due to their immense popularity and ever growing fan base, HYBE Labels stated in a report that TXT will “meet their fans on even larger stages and more diverse locations next year”.

It's not a stretch to say that the members have a high chance of reappearing on the Lolla stage. As they promised at the end of their set, “The crowd here is absolutely amazing. We’ll never forget this moment. Just like the meaning of our name Tomorrow X Together, we look forward to meeting you here again.”
