This is an article about the top five must read books. This is judged by me as I have read all of these books.
Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian - This story is set during WW2 where many children are sent off to the countryside to keep them safe from bombing. Willie is kept under care of Mister Tom, who adopts will and takes him under his care instead of Will’s abusive mother, who later commits suicide. 10/10
A series of unfortunate events by Lemony Snicket - This book is about 3 children who find out that their parents passed away, and are taken under care of their ‘uncle’ Count Olaf, who is really an evil man who just wants the fortune of the 3 orphans The plot develops as the orphans undergo more hardships and the final ending. I rate this book a 8/10 for the engaging plot and how the story develops.
Clean by Juno Dawson - This book is more for older readers, but is still an interesting read. We observe the life of an extremely rich and famous drug addict, Lexi Volkow, and find out the process and their journey through rehab.
Boxers and Saints by Gene Luen Yang - This book is about two sides of the same war, where one is from a Christian family and the other is from a group of fighters who believe that they are protected by saints. This was a super interesting read and I had to reread it again! A 10/10 from me!
Love Lessons by Jaqueline Wilson - This book explores the relationship and romance between a teacher and a student. It is a very interesting read although intended for older readers. I love how the plot develops and how they grow closer together throughout the book. I rate it a 7/10.
Overall, all these books were interesting reads, but my most favourite was Goodnight Mister Tom for the compelling and somber storyline presented.
Thanks for reading!
