The Hero of the Sea: All You Need To Know

The Hero of the Seas will begin sailing in August 2027 from Miami. It will be Royal Caribbean’s fourth Icon Class cruise ship. The 3 other Icon class ships are the Icon of the Seas; which entered service on 27 January 2024 out of the port of Miami, the Star of the Seas which debuted in August 2025 from Port Canaveral and the Legend of the Seas which is going to be finished in July 2026 and will start sailing the Mediterranean from Barcelona/Rome. 

Activities & Things to do

Onboard the Hero of the Seas there is a massive range of entertainment options, whether you want to relax in one of the nine different pools featuring the largest swim up bar at sea where you can sit back and enjoy the views from the infinity pool, explore the category six waterpark (the largest waterpark at sea) with six record braking slides, or even try out the crowns edge.

There are 15 different dinning options including the popular pizza restaurant Sorento’s Pizza, sprinkles where you can get unlimited free flow ice cream, the windjammer buffet, surf-side bites, the brand-new royal railway, family cooking classes, el loco fresh and many more!

Some arguments that people have

Some people may argue that cruises are quite bad for the environment as they can cause pollution through high greenhouse gas emissions as well as cruise ships burning heavy fuel oil which may contribute heavy air pollution in port cities.

Another point is that almost all the icon class ships do not leave the the USA and do not really go to a large variety of places, although the Legend of the Seas will be sailing the Mediterranean from Barcelona/Rome in July 2026 but then still in December going back to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to offer 3 to 8-night Western and Southern Caribbean itineraries and including visits to Royal Caribbean’s private island Perfect Day at CocoCay.  

New on the Hero of the Seas

Royal Caribbean has really tried to make the Hero of the Seas something that the world has never seen before adding brand new features including the ultimate family treehouse with 3 decks and a rooftop terrace with a private whirlpool, two main bedrooms that each include a private bathroom and balcony, and teens get a two-story hideout with a game room and finally a spiral staircase connecting the two floors. 

In conclusion, opinions about the Hero of the Sea differ from person to person. Some may argue that it is an environmental catastrophe whilst also love the luxury it offers as a holiday option. The jury is out and the debate cpntinues to rage.
