Sony Pictures finally address online Campaign in support of Andrew Garfield

Updated: Dec 27, 2022

Since Christmas Day, the internet has been taken by storm with Spider-Man fans tweeting #MakeTASM3, calling for Sony to give Andrew Garfield his third Spider-Man movie.

Andrew Garfield had a short run as a solo Spider-Man, starring in only two movies before his franchise got cancelled in favour of introducing the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe(MCU), with Tom Holland succeeding the actor as Spider-Man. Despite his franchise being cancelled, Garfield reprised his role as Spider-Man in Spider-Man No Way Home alongside predecessor Toby Maguire. Their appearance was met with largely positive reactions from both fans and critics alike.

After three months of the online campaign for Garfield’s return, Sony finally addressed the matter through their social media in which they were promoting the digital release of the actor’s film, No Way Home. Posting a short video that promoted a bunch of Garfield’s Spider-Man movies, they stated alongside the promo: “We’ve seen the hashtags. We’re the social media account, we don’t greenlight the movies.”

There could be potential for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 to be made. A similar thing happened after the release of Justice League(2017) with fans pushing for a director’s cut of the film, which was eventually released in 2021. If The Amazing Spider-Man 3 gets the green light, there could be potential to release it on a streaming service, as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 had underperformed in the box office and became the lowest-grossing live-action Spider-Man film. We’ll just have to wait and see.
