Curaçao made football history by qualifying for the 2026 World Cup as the smallest nation ever to reach the tournament. The tiny Caribbean island of just 160,000 people went completely unbeaten across 10 qualification matches under coach Dick Advocaat. Nicknamed the "Blue Wave," the squad combined local heroes with European-based stars like Tahith Chong to crush early opponents like Barbados, Saint Lucia, and Bermuda. It all came down to a tense final match against Jamaica on 18 November 2025, where Curaçao needed just a draw to advance. Despite heavy pressure from Jamaica, goalkeeper Eloy Room and the defense held strong for a dramatic 0-0 finish. This single point secured first place in their group, sparking massive street parties across the capital city of Willemstad and proving to the world that even the smallest island can achieve the biggest sports miracle.
Curaçao is in a group with the following teams in this year's World Cup:
Germany
Ivory Coast
Ecuador
So Far, Curaçao have just played their first game which was against Germany which they got destroyed 7-1 but when curaçao scored, they levelled the game making it 1-1 with a strike from Livano Comenencia.
To conclude, Curaçao have made history by qualifying for the World Cup.
So, do you think Curaçao will win a game at the World Cup?
