After the last two somewhat mediocre Thor movies, most of us didn’t really care for the franchise. Even Chris Hemsworth himself was pretty bored of playing what I refer to as “Space Hamlet”. However, the one thing that excited me about this film was the fact that one of my favourite directors (Taika Waititi) was helming the project. If you are not familiar with his work, you are missing out. His films have a very strong and fun energy which is exactly what Thor needed. One of the issues that I thought the film would encounter was balancing the seriousness of Ragnarok (The End of Asgard) and the brilliant comedy of Taika Waititi that his fans know and love. However, it's directed very well so this doesn't become a problem. The cast in this film are all amazing from Chris Hemsworth’s hilarious performance as a new version of Thor to Cate Blanchett's menacing performance as Hela the Goddess of Death. Also, the character of Hulk has never been better than he has been in this film, every scene he is in was hilarious.
As well as directing, Waititi plays Korg who, in my opinion, is the funniest Marvel film character we have seen so far. This film looks beautiful; this is probably due to amazing cinematography, the great set design and the Oscar worthy CGI. Furthermore, the score of Thor Ragnarok is probably the best Marvel movie score. It’s a brilliant mix of powerful orchestra and quirky synthwave. Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie is a brilliant addition to the film and so is Jeff Goldblum’s quirky and whimsical dictator known as “The Grandmaster”. The film could have given Hela some more character development, but other than that this film is a thundering success.
