Is your life complicated? Are you one of the many people who are obsessed with making their lives simple? Well, you must be thanking the several companies and governments who have spent insane amounts of time and money creating and finding solutions to allow you to do just that. Their inventions include:
These have removed the complexities of living for billions of us, leaving us with perfect, lovely, simple lives. However, this doesn’t always sit easily with me and I often find myself pondering whether our lives have become too easy and that we have, as a consequence, become lazy. This has then led me to pose the question: why not abolish these things among people worldwide, aside from the elderly and the sick? Many people will object to this, but if you think hard enough, you might see the positivity in this idea. The impact on the world will be a positive change, as this will fix or possibly even end the worldwide issue of laziness. But why can’t we be lazy you ask? The answer is simple - because it is unhealthy. Staying at home, ordering digital assistants about, gazing at BuzzFeed or driving a car is not good for us. This could lead to a shorter life, and it is not mentally or physically healthy, as our muscles and brains are not being trained. There are obvious issues of course. Perhaps, some people, after a worldwide ban, may create a black market for our tempting modern comforts. But everyone, eventually, will get the point about this ban on technology, transport, and Tesco. Some moves have been made to address these issues. The closest and most effective idea out there at the minute is probably Screen Time by Apple, where you can set your own amount of time on tech. Not that many people use it though, as it is optional. My idea would be compulsory. Large companies, however, may protest against this, as they make billions of dollars every year. Apple alone is so popular its net is now worth over one trillion US dollars. They might end up shutting down if the ban is made. Other successful companies – such as Amazon, 7-11, and Google - might do the same, and to protect their company, they will protest. The sacrifice; however, is surely worth it? Wouldn’t you agree?
