After the first Kingsman movie I was pretty excited for a sequel and when I heard about the addition of talents like Jeff Bridges, Halle Berry and many others I was definitely hyped. However the final product was a bland and uneven spy film. One of my main problems with this film is the action sequences. In the first film the action sequences were absolutely ridiculous in the best way possible and had everyone on the edge of their seats as they mixed absurdly brutal violence with English manners however they are never too crazy and over-exaggerated. Sadly in 2017’s the Golden Circle it’s almost like they said “let’s just cross the line and make our nice action sequences and over stylize it to the point that nobody wants to sit through it”.
Another thing I disliked is how criminally underutilized Jeff Bridges, Channing Tatum and Halle Berry were. It felt as if they were just extended cameos instead of strong supporting roles which is annoying as The Statesmen have a big role in the film yet they were barley used. I’m not even joking when I say this but Elton John has more screen time than Jeff Bridges. Another problem with the film is the use of the villain. Even though Julianne Moore played the villain very well I didn’t feel menaced by her as she doesn’t come face to face with our heroes she just sits in the same place the entire time. The film didn’t flow as well as the last one due to the fact that the film wasn’t edited in the same style so the tone of the film is all over the place and the shaky story line doesn’t help either. The only things I enjoyed was the first act, the way they bring back Harry Hart and Pedro Pascal’s Agent Whiskey. Other than that, this film is a mess. I wouldn’t waste your time going to the cinema to watch this. It’s something you would see on a channel like Fox Movies and just leave on.
