Fablehaven is a fantasy series written by the American author Brandon Mull. The series is about two young siblings, Kendra and Seth, protecting Fablehaven, a secret preserve full of magical creatures. So far, I have finished the first two books and I’m currently reading the third. I love the series; it’s one of the most creative and unique fantasy books I have ever read, and whenever I read Fablehaven I feel like I am on the journey with Kendra and Seth, exploring what seems like a new planet.
In the first book, Kendra and Seth’s parents had to go on vacation, so they were sent to be with their grandparents who live at the edge of a forest. They didn’t meet their grandparents a lot before, so the siblings were not very close with them, but after a secret test of knowledge and courage, the grandparents finally decided to pass their knowledge of this magical preserve to their grandchildren. The dense, boring forest was actually a secret home to millions of mythical creatures! Everyday after that, Kendra and Seth discover new creatures, make new friends, and learn a lot.
It surprises me how Brandon Mull can come up with a whole new world just by imagining. You might’ve read about centaurs and minotaurs in Greek Mythology and fairies and nymphs in fairy tales, but in Fablehaven all those creatures come together — as if the whole fantasy world was uniting.
The books in the series are:
If you like daring, dangerous books similar to The Land of Stories and Harry Potter or if you are a fan of fantasy stories I definitely recommend Fablehaven to you. Read the first 50 pages and you will understand what I’m talking about and why I love it so much.
