Champions League 18/19: The Greatest Comebacks
In the Champions League 18/19, there have been some spectacular matches. Ajax surprised us all as they managed to progress to the semi-finals before being knocked out by Tottenham. Barcelona, and the rest of the football world, could not believe their eyes that despite taking a 3-0 lead into the second leg, they were still knocked out by Liverpool.
Here are some of the best matches this season (finals not included).
- Juventus Vs Atletico Madrid (agg 3-2). Atletico Madrid had a two goal head start before Ronaldo and his teammates came back with an eye-catching win in the second leg, scoring three goals to progress into the quarter finals. Shame for Atletico Madrid, they haven’t won a single Champion league season yet. Better luck next year Atletico Madrid.
- Manchester United Vs PSG (agg 3-3). This match was intense, PSG were leading in the first leg but Manchester caught up and destroyed PSG with Lukaku and Rashford on fire in the second leg. In the end, United won on away goals, as Lukaku rounded Buffon for two easy goals while Rashford handled the pressure and slotted the ball in for the win. PSG tried to make a comeback but failed drastically and only scored one goal.
- Ajax DESTROYING Real Madrid (5-3). Another match that surprised both sides. Real Madrid were leading 2-1 after the first leg despite having Sergio Ramos out for the next match, hopes were high for Real. These hopes were crushed by Ajax as they came back 4-1 on the second leg. Wow, Real were defending champions but it seems that they won’t be getting any silverware this year.
- Ajax Vs Tottenham (3-3). Ajax’s finals dream were crushed by Tottenham in an unforgettable second leg in Amsterdam. Ajax were leading after the first leg 1-0 but soon the EPL team caught them up winning 3-1 despite missing Harry Kane and Song-Heung Min.
- Liverpool Vs Barcelona (4-3). 3-0 down to one of the biggest team in the world is quite a nerve-racking scenario to be facing. It is almost impossible to make a comeback at that stage yeah? But Jurgen Klopp’s men came back and made history when they beat Barcelona 4-0 in the second leg with their sheer determination. This meant joy to Liverpool as they progressed to the finals again.
So let us see what the final has to promise between Liverpool and Tottenham. Will Liverpool be successful in the Champions league and forget their EPL loss or will Tottenham make history by winning their first Champions league trophy. Whatever happens, it’s been one hell of a tournament so far that has provided us with so many remarkable performances.
